The Truth About Sununu's Voting Record

The Shaheen campaign is daily promoting misinformation regarding Senator Sununu’s voting record. The ads claim that the Senator only votes as told by the Bush Administration; well, as usual, they, the democrats, could not be more wrong. Here are the facts:

"Votes with Bush 90% of the Time":

Senator Sununu led the effort the filibuster the Patriot Act until civil rights protections were added- He was successful in leading this fight.
Senator Sununu was the first Republican to call for Alberto Gonzales resignation
Senator Sununu opposed the 2003 and 2005 Republican Energy bills because it gave subsidies to big oil and spent too much money.
Senator Sununu has continued to support children's health care programs (SCHIP)
Senator Sununu is an effective leader and independent voice for New Hampshire, he votes with New Hampshire 100% of the time.
Accomplishments:

Wrote and passed the Internet Access Tax Ban which bans internet taxes and taxes on emails and instant messaging.
Wrote and passed the New England Wilderness Act of 2006 which permanently protects more than 35,000 acres of land in the White Mountain National Forest.
Wrote and passed the "Medicare Vision Rehabilitation Services Act of 2003" which provides visually impaired seniors with rehabilitation services.
Recognized by Time Magazine as one of 5 "up and comers" in the US Senate because he has "turned heads already by learning a specialty or helping to broker peace in a polarized capital."
Received numerous awards for his efforts to help community health centers and ensure better access to health care for those without health insurance, and those who are under-insured.
Economy:

Continues to fight against Pork Barrel and wasteful spending. In 2006, Senator Sununu backed the "Pork-Barrel Reduction Act" which aimed to bring transparency to the appropriations process.
Honored as a "Taxpayer Hero" by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste for his opposition to pork-barrel spending and wasteful government programs.
Senator Sununu was one of 15 Senators to vote against the Bridge to Nowhere.

Senator Sununu has fought to preserve and expand the federal-state partnership that provides health care plans for those children whose parents earn above the eligibility threshold for Medicaid, but still cannot afford health insurance.
Senator Sununu led the successful effort to expand Medicare coverage for vision therapy services.
Energy:

In 2003, Senator Sununu led the filibuster against the administration-backed Energy Bill- a bill that would have blocked New Hampshire's attempts to force major oil companies to stop using and clean up the gasoline additive, MTBE, which research has shown to contaminate New Hampshire drinking water and may cause cancer.
Senator Sununu is the lead cosponsor of the Clean Energy Tax Stimulus Act- bipartisan legislation that will produce savings for homeowners and businesses, and foster the growth of the renewable industry in New Hampshire and across the nation. He also worked to include a tax credit for the purchase of energy-efficient wood pellet stoves.
Senator Sununu supports a balanced approach to energy reform- through conservation, increasing domestic production in an environmentally safe way, investing in alternative sources of energy, improving regulation of energy markets and doubling LIHEAP funding for New Hampshire families.
