Susan J. Castor prevails in GOP primary for register of probate

Susan J. Castor of Gilsum defeated Donna M. Shields of Winchester in the Republican primary for the register of probate seat.

Castor took 1,827 votes to the 1,295 ballots cast for her co-worker Shields. Castor will face incumbent Anna Z. Tilton, D-Keene, in November.

Castor has worked for the past decade as a court assistant at a four-person office inside the Cheshire County Courthouse alongside Shields, who has been a deputy register for 24 years. Castor was appointed deputy register three years ago.

While she has less experience on the job, Castor said her 15-year stint running a small family cutlery business and her paralegal certification from Keene State College give her credibility and make her a perfect fit for the position.
