Letter to the Editor by Jerry L. Sickles: Sorry Molly, No Sales Tax, No Income Tax
To the Keene Sentinel:
Greg Martin’s (Molly Kelly’s fiscal agent) letter on Aug. 8 was interesting on several levels, more interesting still for what it did not say.
As it was, Martin’s letter, which was edited for length, was nearly over before he made his point.
At no time did Martin refute the truth of Kelly’s vote to shortchange Keene’s school district by $1.5 million and then hide it from the voters by delaying the cuts for two years.
Such a cut to your hometown’s school district is curious to say the least.
It appears, however Kelly may have started out, it didn’t take her long to become just another typical politician.
When you combine Kelly’s quest for a meaning to what constitutes an “adequate education” without any regard to costs and Martin’s attack on Eaton concerning “the state’s reliance on property taxes,” it’s very clear what these two liberals are talking about: ending New Hampshire’s unique and wonderful tradition of no sales or state income tax.
Oh, they will try to tell you we can lower one tax and raise another and all will be fine. Other states have tried this “tax shifting” (the worst example being New Jersey) only to end up with a new higher tax and no meaningful property-tax relief.
Tom Eaton has said many times New Hampshire doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.
Let’s return Tom Eaton to Concord.
