New Hampshire: The Real Facts

I came across this site searching for Keene budget details. It's a good site.

Recently, I had an opportunity to interact with a couple of our city department heads. I left thinking that thay have too much time on their hands. As a result, I began to look at NH city and town budgets per capita.

What I found surprised me ... we're NOT the highest. We're 2nd in our population class, bested only by Lebanon. Portsmouth comes in 3rd spending $650 per person less than Keene. Keene spent a whopping $4493 per person in 2007 ... $2120 on the municipal budget and $2370 on education. Nashua and Concord spent $3300 and $3400 per person, respectively.

I'd like to continue the study and see how much of these municipal budgets are spent on administrative overhead vs public safety and infrastructure.
